The Galileo thermometer is a fascinating device based on the principle that the density of a liquid changes with temperature. This clever thermometer is made of high quality borosilic glass and contains clear liquid with several multi-colored glass orbs containing liquids of different density. As the temperature changes, the balls rise and fall within the liquid-filled thermostatic cloud. Each bulb is calibrated with a small metal tag indicating a specific temperature which range from 64ºF to 80ºF. The lowest sphere in the top group within the instrument indicates ambient temperature. Hardwood base measures 4-1/4"w x 1-1/2"d, and contains five different temperature indicators. 4-1/2"h x 5-1/4"w. Indoor use only. A dynamic and colorful gift.

Watched it for ten minutes straight the first day just to see the bulbs rise and fall as the room warmed up. The borosilicate glass feels sturdy and the liquid inside is crystal clear, no bubbles or cloudiness. It's become my favorite thing to glance at on the shelf.

I keep it on my windowsill and the little bulbs rise and fall with the afternoon sun, which is honestly more entertaining than my phone. Watching the density shift as the room warms up actually taught me how the thing works. Solid glass, no leaks so far after a couple months.

I’ve had it on my desk for a week and the floating spheres are such a hypnotic little detail, guests always stop to stare. The borosilicate glass feels solid and the readings have matched my thermostat every time I’ve checked.
